Empirical research uses data to gain insights into the world we live in. Probability theory and statistics have proven to be extremely useful in this regard. While probability theory is used to conceptualize processes in the real world that lead to uncertain outcomes, statistics summarizes these outcomes in a useful way. However, the application of these tools can also be very frustrating due to their mathematical formalism, which causes a steep learning curve. This course is an introduction, or a review, of the basics of probability and statistics. The aim is to clear the fog that math creates to navigate empirical research.
